THE CHALLENGE

AWS Fintech had sophisticated financial data to manage and analyze, and my UX team were tasked with enabling new scenarios:

  • Automating data validation for security and speed

  • Enabling Excel-like interaction with data grids in-browser

  • Supporting very large and complex financial data sets

THE SOLUTION

The AWS Fintech UX team developed common pattens, documented them in a style guide, and built several complex financial tools

  • Origin extensions for detailed in-browser Financial Planning

  • Extensive style guide created for Engineering, PM, and Design

  • In-browser features to create Excel-like features online

THE RESULTS

Common Patterns and a Style Guide for UX designers were developed, which together:

  • Cut down development time by 75%, lowering costs globally

  • Cut down validation time from 7 days to 24 hours

  • Increased User Experience and created Customer Delight

UX RESEARCH

Learning complex financial planning and operations scenarios required tight engagement and learning with the Amazon Fintech teams:

  • Conducted Interviews with stakeholders and product owners

  • Ran Usability Studies with existing users to identify pain points

  • Designed and Iterated in live meetings with the design team.

USER JOURNEYS & PERSONAS

Development of detailed user flows elucidated the various specific objectives of different users:

  • Personas identified and charted with deep dives

  • User Flows created show stakeholders’ touchpoints

  • This work dovetails directly into wireframes as next step

SCENARIO WIREFRAMES

Detailed wireframes were used to build out the scenarios in Figma and then create full-fidelity interactive prototypes.

  • Screen-by-screen walkthrough creates detailed artifacts

  • Iteration is fast and easy, with several revisions per day

  • Present to Organization via distributable prototype
